I believe the best course of action is to take a look at a business that’s not doing well and give it some assistance. First, I would check to see if they can afford anything free. Free may not be the best option but it's the first option and it doesn't hurt to ask. If they can't afford anything free than I would say for them to quit as soon as possible as there's no hope for their business which should be closed down ASAP! If they cannot quit, then you need to review their current marketing strategy and see what needs improvement. You should also see if they have all their expenses in-house or if they have clients in-house. If they are out of pocket then you can talk to them about hiring an assistant for the business. This way all their expenses will be out of their budget (paying your assistant) and your business will be doing better than before because you're cheaper than them hence more clients for them. To help get them focused on their business, you can do some marketing for free or cheap (such as go to websites like craigslist, facebook ads, google adwords etc). You can also give discounts off your products to keep customers coming back to you which will help with the overhead. You can also review their current strategy by looking at their revenue on average per month on all of their marketing channels. If they are not consistent on all of their marketing channels, you can talk to them about changing the strategy to get more consistent monthly revenue. This is my go-to for businesses that are small or don't have any customers yet. You just need to work hard and apply the steps above. I generally recommend that businesses look at how they are running their business. I try to offer free advice when I can, work hard and give advice for free....then if they don't want to pay me...then I let them go. I think it's one of the best ways to get business, you have to put in the hard work and the hard work alone will show your value. If you are good at marketing then maybe you should let someone else market your company. Always do the best you can with what you have because in business especially there is no room for mistakes.
